Students’ ‘Free Shop’ comes to Beeston

Leeds, England

(South Leeds Life, 10 June) A temporary “free shop” has come to Beeston, a suburb of Leeds, England. This free shop is a place for locals to pick up a range of second-hand goods without paying a penny.

The ‘shop’ is part of the Leave Leeds Tidy scheme, run by Leeds University Union – that aims to divert leftover household goods left by students when they leave Leeds, to people who can make use of them. Items are likely to include clothes and shoes, kitchenware, food, electrical items, furniture, and bikes.

The shop will be open between 9am and 4pm on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 June at the Church of the Nazarene on Hunslet Hall Road in Beeston.

HFC Nazarene celebrates century mark in May

Huntington, Indiana

(Huntington County TAB, 13 June) Huntington, Indiana, First Church of the Nazarene celebrated its 100th anniversary in May.

Huntington Church Pastor Bobby Kemp says the church engaged in 100 days of prayer leading up to the celebration.

“Where we were thanking God for what he’s done in the past and asking for clarity and wisdom on what the future looks like,” Kemp said. “Thankful for the past, looking to the future.”

The anniversary celebration also saw Kemp unveil a surprise to the congregation. While the church’s members had been aware that renovations were being carried out in the church’s banquet room, they were not privy to the extent of those changes, which included transforming part of it into a permanent exhibit that chronicles the church’s history.
